Revolver Frames

Not being that familiar with revolvers, why do they refer to some
revolvers as K, J, N frame revolvers... Is there a web site that will
show the differences? I am guessing that it has something to do with
the shape of the frame, however , try as I might I look at the photos and don't see much of a difference...

  Those letters refer to the frame size of S&W revolvers.
  
  "J" Frame - small frame....for example, S&W Chief's Special, Bodyguard, etc.
  
  "K" Frame - medium frame....Model 10, Military & Police, etc.
  
  "N" Frame - large frame....44 Hand Ejector, Mod. 29 ("Dirty Harry), etc.

  The basic DESIGN of the frame is pretty much the same. As Xracer said its the size thats different. If you placed them side by side it would be obvious.

  There was also an "I" Frame used in the S&W Hand Ejector series. It was a small frame very close in size to the J Frame, that S&W used for their solid frame 32 Long models. Later models used the J Frame. This also applied to the 22-32 Kit Gun.
  There was even a smaller S&W frame used in the rare,original Ladysmith series. I don't believe there was a letter designation for this tiny revolver.
