Remington M1903 A1?

Hello All,

I am new here and have a question someone might be able to help me with. I have a remington M1903 30.06 made in '41 (semi-pistol grip). I have yet to find another like it. Been looking for about three years. Not much progress one would say. I believe it to be an A1. It is in A+ condition. My question is, how many of these(A1's) were made by remington? Are they scarce? I know Springfield mad very few of them and remington was making 03's during WWII, but what about this one? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    The 03a3 was adopted May 21, 1942. There were approximately 1,295,000 model 03 and 1903a1 rifles made at Springfield, Rock Island, and Remington Arms factories total.

    Welcome to the forum.

    What you have is a "Remington M1903 (modified)" rifle, with a replacement stock.

    Although the War Dept planned to have Remington make a model M1903A1 rifle (the A1 designation indicated full pistol grip), none were issued. This is because the stock blanks available were only suitable for making straight stocks.

    I suspect that your rifle has a Keystone replacement "scant" stock. Look in the magazine cut-off recess for the letter K.

    If you have photos, or can described every marking on the metal & wood parts, especially the serial # & barrel date, we might be able to tell you a little more about your rifle.

    The gun is in K.C. right now along with the rest of my collection(long story). It will be back here soon. When it is I shall try to post some photos and more info. Thanks a bunch.
