I need a Marlin Mechanic

I have an 1894 in 45 Colt that I want to have converted to either 45AR or 45 ACP. I've heard of this being done from two different sources, but haven't been able to locate the person who did the work. Of course, I want to be real sure that the rifle will run with that short of a cartridge before I go any further.

I also want to know what needs to be done to the follower or tube to remove the 10 round restriction.

    Wait until after September to do anthing about the "10 round" thing! Might be a bit of a sticky wicket with the ATF otherwise! Don't believe I can do much to help you with the conversion thing personally but you could trylooking in Cartridges of the world if you have a copy and look at the 50 Alaskan cartridge referrence...The author makes referrence to a company called Wild West Guns owned by a man named Jim West (800-992-4570) who seems to do wonders with lever guns in the larger caliber areas. Perhaps he can do something for you in the other direction.

    I do not know who would do this work for you and I believe it would cost more than it would be worth. You gain nothing but the number of rounds the magazine would hold; you can certainly gain better performance from the 45 Colt cartridge than either the 45AR or 45ACP.

    As far as the magazine goes, simply take it apart and remove any restrictions/plugs you find that may be used to eliminate additional cartridges from being loaded. There is no US regulation regarding the magazine capacity of a lever action rifle using a fixed, tubular magazine.

    Be sure to check you state and local laws regarding magazine capacity.
