Old Rifle Info. Needed
Well the technical difficultiies appear to have been resolved and Bigbarn has gotten the first batch of images through to me.
To bring all readers up to speed, he is in the process of cataloging a number of old/antique firearms for a museum in his community.
I didn't receive any descriptive data along with the image files, so I am assuming that he will add a response to this mssg., describing the markings, etc. on the rifle.
I'm sure that any information you can provide will be sincerely appreciated.
As I get more image files I will post them along with any accompanying descriptive info.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!

I previously identified ( to the best of my ability, some of the photos are of very poor quality ) the original photos he posted.
After I identified them, I requested that he provide specific data as to "markings/proofmarks, barrel lengths, overall lengths, calibers, gauges, etc. etc..
Since he can't or won't provide this data, this causes me to doubt the verracity of his original story, i.e. that he is trying to identify donations for a museum. If these firearms were in a museum collection and he was a volunteer working on/with them, he would have access to all the data I requested.0 -
The pic appears to be a German 1888 7.92 Carbine and adaption of the 8mm Lebel.

Rufe-Snow, I'm sorry that I did not provide the info you requested, I have not had time to access it yet, being as I am trying to get the photo's posted to Contender-Man. You make me sound like some kind of criminal, saying I either could not or would not provide the info requested. My story is accurate, you can call the museum if you like. I'm just trying to help them figure out what guns they have, and some hidstory on them. If you choose to continue to be involved with helping me, please be a little patient, I'm new to this type of thing, and am learning as fast as I can.
This gun was manufactured in the Erfurt Military arsenal, serial #8700, has "1893 Crown Rifle" on the receiver, and "B Kax 88 n.m." on the barrel. At this point, that is all the info I have regarding this firearm.

I have no reason to retract the previous comments, I made today.
I made my original assessment of the ( 11) Rifles & Shotguns you posted pictures of, on 4/14/04.
At that time I also requested information on "markings/proofmarks", "barrel lengths", "overall lengths", "calibers", "gauges" & all other pertinent information.
You have provided none of this information, for even one of these firearms.
If these firearms are in a museum? and you have access to them, it would be relatively simple to acquire this information.
In my opinion it would only take a couple of hours to compile the data for all (11).0 -
You must have gotten up on the wrong side of the bed, rufe. Please do not waste any more of your precious time with my requests, I'm sure we can muddle thru it without you. And if you think you can gather the information you request, with studio quality pictures,
"in a couple of hours" then please be my guest, and call the museum at (707) 263-4555, Wednsday thru Friday, and they will be happy to assist you!

XRacer, thanks for the info. I already have a couple of these books, and they are excellent references. I will absolutely check out the other ones that I don't have, and glean all information that I can out of them.
