estimated value Win. 42 .410

just bought a md. 42 with a 26 in. mod. barrel with no marks on it at all. fairly early serial#. also have an older one with a 30 in. full barrel. a little bit of ware, but nothing to get excited over. just wondered how much i am sitting on.

    First off you need to state the % of finish (blue - varnish) as it is you say not a mark and that conjures up mint but maybe yours is a reblue. Are you following me? Anyway, I saw a first year production sell for $800 in 40% contition. I thought that was high but it was unaltered and really looked nice despite the faded/worn blue. If yours is analtered and no cut stock as you seem to say, then $1500. On the second one, I seriously doubt that you have one with a 30 inch barrel.

    Welcome to the forum digger. First off, Winchester only produced 26in and 28in barrels for the Md 42. Unless your 28in has a choke device like a "cutts" on it.
    If you are talking just plain barrel field grade guns, they can go from $500 and up on the net here. As a minimum a 42 is worth just $500. plus in parts alone. I've seen plain barrel pre-war 42's in 98% condition go for over $1000.
    If yours have something different, such as a solid rib, checkered stocks, add more money.
    If they are original blue, the safety will be in the white, meaning not blued, the chamber ring just in front of the breech bolt is also in the white, check, if these are blued, your gun has been reblued. Reblued guns drop in value. give us a better discription, we can give you a better idea what the value may be. Regards Dave

    sorry for the confusion here fellas'. the gun is a 28 in. barrel. i also checked and they are both the original blueing as far as i can tell. thanks again.
