Is there a forum on gunbroker for questions concerning gun laws. I am considering purchasing a Carbon 15 and had several questions concerning how I might modify it. Thanks

    Well, this may sound like a stupid question but hopefully I'll get some positive input. I'm considering purchasing a Carbon 15 pistol manufactured by Bushmaster which is actually nothing more than a scaled down short version of the AR-15 only much lighter and without a stock. I want this weapon for use on an entry team. I've considered putting a stock (either full or collapsible) on the weapon to provide better control and target acquisition. I was just curious if anyone has any knowledge of whether or not you can add a stock to a weapon of this sort. Thanks. You would think with my law enforcement background I would know the answer already but I'm just not familiar with all of these pre-ban/post-ban federal laws.

    Thanks Mark.
    That clears it up. When I purchase my Carbon 15, I'll just leave it the way it is and modify my other AR with a shorter barreled upper. I was just hoping I could just add a stock the the Carbon and leave my other AR the way it is for it's long range capability. It makes a great coyote gun too..haha.

    Pre Ban/ Post Ban, doesn't have anything to do with it. If you put a stock on a firearm that was originally sold as a handgun, you d*m sure better put a 16" barrel on it at the same time, or get a Federal Tax Stamp that allows you to be in possession of a short barreled rifle.

    The above applies to civilians, if you are a leo and your department authorizes you to have a stocked pistol, the Feds might OK it?

    Jack, changing uppers on an AR is a thirty second operation which even the fumble-fingered can perform. Once you have registered your AR (use the serial number from the lower) you can then go out and purchase any length upper which you wish and change back and forth whenever you feel the need to go out varmint hunting...it is not a big deal. LEOs are not exempt from the National Firearms Act so be sure to follow all of the regulations. The BATFE hates to bust cops, but they will if they catch you with an unregistered short barreled rifle and that act alone will end your career in law enforcement pronto!

    I've already ok'd it through the department but I know that it's going to be my 4$$ on the line and not there's if I ever had to discharge it in the line of duty. That's why I'm trying to dot all of my i's and cross my t's before I go out and buy it and can't set it up the way I want it. Unfortunately, our department only supplies us with a 1 duty weapon (a Glock 22). Anything extra has to be purchased by the individual officer regardless of its use on the job. I've got an e-mail in to Bushmaster's customer service. Hopefully they've dealt with this question before. Surely they'll know right?
