Depends on condition. A local dealer here had them for $99 with a 440 round case of ammo, and accesories. All were in decent condition(80% or better). I have seen them as cheap as $39. 0 -
What kind of condition? Is it a laminate stock? I am assuming it to be a model 91/30? Is it from a business of person to person? Is it import marked (almost a lead pipe cinch it is but thought I would ask)? Do you know which arsenal? Tula? Izhevsk? Post back and I'll try to help.

Pawn shop wants $89.
According to them it was illegal to take the rifle in and want to get rid of it. I know it's not illegal so I think it's just their policy to not take in any "Black Rifles".
I didn't have my glasses with me to read the barrel or reciever. The tag on it said it was a Model 1945. Good to very good condition.

There is no model 1945. If 1945 is on the reciever, that is the year of production. At that time, there were 3 different models being made. 1) the 91/30 rifle. Has a detachable bayonet, so you would see a bayonet lug. These are running $50-60 or so wholesale, with all accessories. 2) the M-38 carbine. Shorter, with no bayonet or means to attach. With accessories complete, about the same value. Some were later re-arsenalled with laminated stocks, this adds considerably to the value. 3) the M-44 carbine. Same length as M-38, but with folding bayonet. If bayo is missing, there still would be attachment point visible. These are a bit less valuable, say $45-50 wholesale. If accessories are missing, take off $5-10 more.
War time (41-45) production model years are even less collectable, perhaps another $5 off. Retail prices are usually 50-100% above wholesale. Stock cracks and other deformities can also reduce value.
By "accessories" I mean those thing issued with with the rifle, cleaning rod, rod end jag, screwdriver/bolt tool, sling, ammo pouch, and bayo (on M91/30 only).

Chunkstyle has a good grip on this one. These rifles are pretty much a dime a dozen with the exception of the laminate stock issue. I would definately pass if for no other reason than they told you they tok it in illegally. If that is so in any way, how could they legally sell it to you?!?! Be careful with this one!

hello, if you guys think that 1945 dated m38 are a dime a dozen and you find them for 50 bucks, let me know and i'll buy the entire shippment. 1945 dated m38 are about as rare as it gets. so few were made during the last months of the war that know one knows the exact numbers. the same holds true for 1939 dated m38. maybe they are a nickel a dozen. mn76254r 0
