Buying NFA firearms with a C&R

What steps do I get to skip when buying a qualifying NFA firearm with my C&R? Do I still need a CLEO sign-off? Do I still need to go through a class 3 dealer? etc, etc.

  You have to do everything except go through dealers, unless there are additional restrictions in your state. If the seller is in another state, he can ship it directly to you once BATFE approval is obtained.
