EAA witness mags marked 12 but holds 6?

Ok So I got one of these EAA witness fulsize in 40 smith it shoots good but the mag is marked 5 with a hole then 8 and another hole and 12 and another sight hole .The problem is it only holds 6 ruonds of 40 smith and it is full the other mag sticks out the bottom of the mag well about 1 1/2 inch but only holds seven . could these be 9mm Mags?

Also on the stainless steel slide it is marked EAA -HIALEAH-FLA.but on the blued frame is marked WITNESS
EAA-COCOA-FLA and FT-MADE IN ITALY.

What does this mean?

Also it shoots about a foot low at 15 feet .Any clue what could cause this? The groups are tight but low.

    The gun is actually made in Italy, EAA stands for European Action Arms and is mearly an importer house.

    AS far as the mag is concerned, I would disassyble it and see if there is a block inside. Just be carefull not to break any part when doing so. Witness mags will run about 35 to 40 dollars each.

    I do not know if the 40SW mag will even hold a 9mm case as the lips of the mag are possibly too wide.

    By guess is that war is correct about the block. You might want to wait for some more replies. I'm not positive, but you may be creating a hi cap mag here. Not a good thing. I'll be interested in how this plays out.

    Sounds really odd to me! I would disassemble the mag (I believe push down on the rear end of the follower and allow the innards to pass up through the front, in front of the feed lips) and insure that there is neither a plug or possibly a non-factory dent in the body of the mag. The Tanfoglio brothers make really good stuff and I would be surprised if there was a defect! They have been making these for a while so it may be pre-ban, but make sure you are not creating a hi-cap mag...at least until after Sept. Even if it was a C/B mag, why would it hold only 6 rounds?!?! Did you get it used? MAyby they gave you the wrong mag...one from an EAA compact?

    If you could send pictures of the mags and the gun . I might be able to advise. Their were Witness compacts in 9mm that would have had holes at 5,8, and 12. I could be of more help if I could see what you are dealing with however. I have several thousand mags in stock and have sold them for years. You may very well have a 9mm magazine, but without seeing it I can't be sure. Even if it is a 9mm compact Witness pre-ban mag, it should hold more than 6 rounds.

    The problem is the mags must be 9mm I got the gun used at a gun show .After inspecting the factory green box I found a lable on the outside that read witness 9mm 13rds also there are some sku # EA9LB .The frame is blued steel not the wonder finish and the slide is stainless steel .The slide and barrel are marked 40 S&W .I suspect someone may have added a diffrent slide and barrel to convert it to 40 S&W but kept the 9mm mags .The mags are realy tight to load .The gun measures from the end of the beaver tail to the end of the slide tail on the frame not the barrel almost exactly 7 inches and from the bottom of the magwell to the top of the frame where the slide rail is 3 and 15/16 alnost 4 inches .I don't belive it's a compact .I put a 38 special in the top of the mag and it sits fin in the back of the lips but doesn't touch the front of the lips. I didn't have any 9mm rounds .I don't have a digital camera.the clips mesure almost 4inches long and 3/4 of an inch wide at the bottom.the other is 4 and 14 /16 long and 3/4of an inch wide.

    Given the hole markings and the numbers assigned to them, the frame is that of a compact. If the mag you described fits and locks in, you definitely have a compact frame. The "L" in the sku# indicates a compact as well. The full size would have a 4 1/2" barrel, the compact would be a 3 5/8" barrel. There are specific 40S&W mags for the compact, they hold 9 rds.
