Century H&K 91
I can't afford an original H&K. Does anyone have and experience with the Century model that uses their own stamped receiver and other parts original H&K?

Century makes two models with good reports, a CETME and a G3, both with stainless steel receivers. The CETME with the stainless receiver is Century's number RI 1073-X and their G3 sporter is RI 1008-X. The G3 costs about $150 more wholesale. That's what I'd insist on, even if the dealer had to special order it in stainless.

Century's QC is iffy at best. Sometimes their rifles are fine. Sometimes they're a waste of metal. Personally, I wouldn't touch anything they build. 0 -
Please for all of us HK lovers...wait and save up to get the real thing. I personally refuse to buy copies simply cause they will never last as long and arent original

The Portugese contract rifles were around not long ago, weren't they a decent discount off the price of the German made HK's? They were still a quality/mil-spec rifle. If I was looking now I'd look into one of those. Then again, when I was looking I found the $$ and bought the real thing. 0 -
There were 2 HK clones at the rifle match today. One was a JLD ptr-91 that the guy paid about a grand for. It shot well, was supposed to be all new US parts, was accurate, and didn't malfunction once in 100 or so rounds. The other was one of the century abhorations that he paid about $350 for. It misfed of misfired about 25% of the time. All that said, I guess you get what you pay for. Although I would buy one of the centuries, just to see if I could get it to work right.

Well I bought a century Arms Cetme and have a little over 100 rounds through it , it has had 2 problems so far 1 the first round out of a magazine doesn't always want to chamber and I have had to put the first 1 in the chamber . 2 my first shooting sesion with it was ended by a case head seperation with the shell body stuck in the chamber .
If you buy 1 you might want to buy a broken shell extractor at Cheaper than Dirt for $15 that included shipping for me , a gunshop wanted $45 to remove it and keep the gun for 1-2 weeks with an extractor you can do it yourself in 30 seconds .0 -
Look at the PTR 91. Not bad in prices. I bought one on the advice of a guy who owns 2 HK91's a PTR91, CETME and a Springfield. From his POV. The PTR 91 is the best on the market next to the original HK. Of course in a post-ban model. I don't have a use for a flash supressor or bayo lug. So I could care less about it. He has fired about 1500 rounds through the PTR and claims it is as good as the orginals. I've got a springfield scope on mine, arms claw, an HK wide forearm with bipod. I paid about 1100 total.
I'm not an HK collector, but do like the design of the 91. I am not willing to spend 2500 on a rifle I can get for 1700 cheaper with nearly the same quality. Though if I had that much money I could toss around, I would have gotten the HK.
One of the things I have heard about was the difference between NATO 7.62 and the winchester .308 ammunition. Something about brass being thicker, etc. Putting a .308 round in a NATO rifle can have the brass split. The PTR "supposedly" has been chamber corrected for all .308 ammo. Then again I don't know.0 -
I have a Century CETME and a PTR-91 that I got used for about $550. No problems with either of them to date. Shop around and try to pick up a used PTR-91 if you can...the price difference isn't that steep and you get a gun made in the US with brand new parts, not some frankenstein butchered by Century that they manage to put together.
