1911 type 45s for Carry - Advice?

Ok - I can take abuse now for my prior posts which are almost all about DA guns, and how I wanted to stick to DA for my new concealed carry weapon. Took advice of better shooters (including instructor) to try SAs before knee jerking into a gun I don't like. It seems I can hide (width seems more an issue than length), and shoot better & quicker the 1911 single stacks over anything else I tried.

Thinking a compact might be the way to go, but is it really all that different given only 1/2" of length in most cases? Looking at: Colt Defender and Kimber Pro Carry II (Ultra Carry was just seemed too short). I am new to CCW (formerly Canada and California). I Any advice/recommendations out there?

BACKGROUND INFO: In looking for CCW weapon, I have tried about (literally) 20-30 guns at my local rental ranges. I am accurate and fast with my Sig 220 Stainless, but it weighs a ton and is really huge. I tried Glocks (a lot, never liked the feel - I know the tech is superior but the feel sucks), Kahr, S&W, Para 6.45(nice, but still thicker than 1911s), Sigs, Kimbers, Wilsons, Springfield XD, CZ, HK USP Compact, but nothing I felt & shot as good as 1911 style 45s.

The above all said, anyone have advice on a 1911 style, SA , single stack for CCW carry? Are the Defender and Pro Carry II the only guns out there in this class?

    If you like the 220, I would get one with an aluminum frame. I also use a Kimber CDP Pro with the 4" barrel and aluminum frame. I don't know how short you want to go. Sprinfield also makes some nice short models. I personally don't care for the 3" models, but a lot of people do like them.

    Good man scrum, the 1911 is a great choice. I own two, a Kimber Pro Carry II and a full size Springfield WWII model. I have carried both extensively and prefer to carry the full size instead the Kimber. They are virtually the same size, as the difference in their barrel lengths does not really affect concealment. Whatever you choose good luck, and enjoy.

    Kimber is nice but go with the Defender. Lighter and if you want get the Defender plus (8+1)

    3 weeks ago I got a new Kimber, Ultra Carry II, All I can say is "it is better than anything Colt has" Officer, Defender... I have them all and used Colt for years.. For work and play. If you can find someone that has a Kimber, see if you can try it.... Cost is high, but you get what you pay for [:)]

    The CCW has the 4.25" barrel. I took the sights off mine.

    I have a Kimber Pro Carry. It is a commander style with alloy frame. Lighter than the steel frame models, but still not unpleasanat to shoot. I like the full size grip as compared to the smaller grips on compact models.
