45ACP ?
I am shooting a Ruger P97 in 45ACP. This is a relative light gun and with 230 grain ammo is a handful, not intolerable, but not real fast back on target either. My question does the lighter hollow point ammo in 185 or 200 grain have less recoil? I know the velocity on the lighter bullets is quite a bit higher so I am not sure the recoil would be any less. I am only trying to get around buying expensive hollow points to figure this out by taking some advice from the experts. By the way this gun is very accurate for a smaller defensive gun, and reliablity is 100%, so the gun is a winner.

The laws of physics say you are right, unless you drive the lighter slugs at much much higher velocities. I use 200 grainers in my compact 45 and the recoil is very tolerable 0 -
Hello I am a BULLS-EYE target shooter and even though this is not the type of shooting you want to do you could do what we do. There is a 185 grain swc target load that has a mutch lighter recoil. I have shot 5 to 7 thousand rounds of 45ACP a year for the last 35 years and would have no elbow if they had all been 230 grain HARDBALL. We reload with light loads and sometimes you might have to go with a lighter recoil spring and polish feed ramp to get your pistol to feed and function these lighter loads. If you can pratice with a light load your skills will inprove much faster then if all you shoot is with a load that is borderline on confort. 0 -
I am not familiar with the model 97. I have the P90 and it is extremely accurate and reliable 100%. It is my winter carry gun. I can conceal it with the bulky winter clothes. Is the 97 a polymer frame? Personally, I can't tell much difference in recoil between 230gr. and 180 gr. I bought some Hornady "+P" defense rounds for it and they recoiled a little harder. 0 -
For plinking/general target shooting, buy some 185-200 gr. SWC target loads.
They're a lot easier on the gun and on the shooter, and more accurate than the hotter stuff......and usually less expensive too.0 -
I use Winchester 185 gr flat tip.. hard to find. bBut can get it for about $10.75 box of 50. Makes shooting a lite gun, fun!
It will hurt you, More than it will hurt me..
