1976 era styling on Colt Diamondback

Can anyone comment on when the colt diamondback changed the styling (checkering) on their wooden grips. I notice that the earlier diamondbacks had checkering that "curved" around the colt medallion and the newer checkering was "straightened" right below the medallion. Approximately WHAT YEAR did they make this change?

  For what this is worth: I have a 1978 Dia. with "curved" checkering and a 1981 Dia. with "straight" checkering. Both with original grips. So I'd have to say 260 is right!
