Opinions for new carry choice for a girl
Hi, I need some advice please on a new carry piece for myself. I am currently carrying a small Glock 9mm, but I have my eye on two 45's. They are both Springfield's. First one is the 1911A1 Champion (PX9142L)4" barrel. The second one is the 1911A1 "Loaded" Ultra Compact w/ a 3.5" barrel(PX9161L). Looking at the specs there isn't alot of differences that I can see and their price difference is minimal($10).I need to stay with something smaller since I am a "petite lady" but I don't care about the gun's weight. So I'm hoping that someone here who has knowledge of these guns could help me decide on which is the better of the two. I appreciate any help and opinions anyone has. Thanks! Sam[:X]

Since price is't a factor I'd pick the one that fits best in your hand. And buy it. 0 -
Fit and feel are the first 2 items on the selection list, than caliber/recoil level, etc. and down near the bottom of the selection list (least importent) is price. 
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0 -
My fiance is just waiting to get her hands on the 9mm Ultra Compact (PX9505L). She hasn't fired one yet, but it has become her dream gun. We are just waiting for a cheaper one to post on GB, they go for about $675 right now.

Welcome to the board sam67. -- The performance/quality on these guns should about the same. I would personally prefer the 4" barrel gun out of the two. It will have slightly less muzzle flash and noise to deal with.-- If there are any available in your area see if there is a range where they rent guns and see if you could try them to see how they feel. If not maybe someone you know has one you could try.If not the exact gun, then the same barrel lengths.The first thing is the way it fits your hand and the way it points for you etc.--- If you shoot your 9mm better and have more confidence in it, stay with it. Bullet placement means more than caliber.--- If your not going to carry it on your hip, etc. and maybe in a purse you may find that a 5" barrel is eaiser to shoot and control. The grips on these 1911s are all pretty much the same size unless it's a double stack magazine which are wider.-- Don't try to save a few bucks on something that you may someday have to stake you life on. I at one time had an older ported V-10 and was quite fond of it...until I got a Para-ordnance P-10! Both of these guns are gone from my collection as Illinois (communist state that it has become!) has no concealed carry option and neither was much fun to shoot as a target gun! Of the 2 I much prefered the Para and wish I had never sold it! Functioned a bit more reliably and felt much more substantial in the hand! I'm not sure if your ladys' hand is large enough to accomodate the double stack, but if such is the case I reccommend the Para-Ordnance. Either way, whichever one she FEELS most comfortable with and can use for sustained shooting (an area the double stacks have the advantage in with their extra weight).

TEMBLORS got it! Short Barrel is an ear busting SOB!..I Have 3 Daugters that swear by the 1911 and 11A1's..and all are Damn Good Shots with the Venerable .45...

my wife who regularly qualifies with a semi-auto carries a bare bones 38 special with wadcutters for the following reasons.
1. if the situation escalates to the use of deadly force time is the most important factor, your hand will know exactly what to do--( no matter how disoriented or confused you might be)-- your hand will know to pull the hammer back off of the empty chamber and take care of buisness, 2 shots to solve the problem and two shots to provide yourself an exit point/or take one of their weapons.
2. the possibility of after the use of deadly force that you will have to surrender your weapon to authorities is 100%, either for a period of time and sometimes indefinitely, sorry thats the way it is.
save the semi-autos for other situations, by the way both guns you have selected are excellent.[^]0
