travelling with gun?

I'm headed off for a visit to family in the eastern U.S. I'm going to fly to Florida, and on to New York City. My CCW is valid in Florida, and I'd like to carry there. Getting the gun through checked baggage is possible, I understand. But New York is out of bounds. Is it possible for me to ship my handgun home from Florida to myself? Being from the West I'm used to carrying a gun, but unfamiliar with the intricacies of this type of travel. advice would be appreciated.

    Guess you could have an FFL ship it to a friendly FFL near your place.

    Or leave it at home, and buy some Mace in FL.


    Recon I be standing corrected somewhat. I always figured you could ship to yourself a h-gun you owned, but hear so often that it has to go through an FFL, guess it just got drummed in the head.

    You can ship a firearm to yourself at another location. However, it must be shipped UPS or FEDEX Next Day Air.

    Checking a firearm, especially a handgun, on any airline is possible but not recommended. You must comply with both federal regs & airline policy. Your locked hard case may be pried open by TSA, & you will not be compensated. Your gun may be lost by the airline; again, don't expect compensation.

    Times like this can be frustrating. Maybe you should consider going unarmed; if Miami is on your itinerary, change your plans.

    I travel on airlines quite often with a pistol and or some class 3 stuff being checked in at the counter.
    Never a problem yet. Except some strange looks.
    Just have the clip empty, a lockable pistol case, and a full box of factory ammo.
    Just declare it at the checkin counter, no problems. Dont call the airlines in advance and tell them you are coming & dont tell anyone that your carrying a pistol in your bags until you get to the check-in counter.
    Then tell the check-in counter person that you have a weapon to declare.
    But again I don't take any weapons to Calif, NY, MA or NJ, cause your asking for problems.
    As far as shipping to yourself or to your home with someone there over 21 to sign for it via Fed-ex. Again no problems.
    UPS a total differant story...

    That's right, you can ship to yourself if the shipper will allow it, and since UPS changed its policy your best bet is FedEx. You may have to see about marking the label to hold the box at the FedEx office for your arrival if no one else is allowed to sign at your home.

    being from conn originally, and knowing new england laws...why go thru the hassle of having your gun up there? if you use it....(which odds are youll never have to,) you could cause serious problems. why bring it? conn law requires you to have strictly a conn carry. pass thru the state w/o one and you go to jail. carry in mass w/ out of state permit? you must be joking! be exact...where are you going? go from there. ask the locals what the laws are. after all the s&h, the ffl tip, and then having to do it again to go home, is it worth it? i mean...where do you plan on frequenting? fyi, im a ccw in va.. i have travelled but i had a mil. waiver which made it a lot easier. in 25 years, i never had to draw. i just leave it home now. its not worth the hassle. it might make your trip more hassle free. just my 2 cents worth.
