Remmington 7 or 700 LSS in 308 ????

Are there any Remmington experts out there that know if the 308 cal was made for the model 7 LSS (laminated Stock Stainless) I know they made the gun last year but cancelled the model for 2004. I really wonder if they made the 308 cal. If so I will look for a used one, I really want a 308 laminated stock stainless....so the question is did they ever make one in either 700 mountain or model 7.

Also is a model 7 action the same as the 700 or is it simply developed from the 700? is the model 7 action as good as the 700? and what is the comprimise with the model 7 besides a shorter barrel?
