44mag and 44special----always????
This is my third question of the night--sorry. But, we here on the frozen tundra of Minnesota just experienced perhaps our first beautiful spring day. 70 degrees, sunny, no wind. For those of you who have never experienced a Minnesota winter, it has been nearly 6 months since we were at 70 degrees[:D] So, I played a little hookey and left work early and went to the range--hence, lots of questions as I shake the shooting rust off--literally.
Anyway, one of my winter purchases which I shot for the first time today was an 1894 Marlin in 44mag. My question is will this weapon fire 44specials as well? The caliber markings on the weapon do not list 44special at all.

Many repeaters will not fire specials in magnum guns. I'm sure they can be fired in there when used as a single shot in time of need, but I don't know if that's recommended in those guns or not. 0 -
I believe you can use them as you would .44 mag. .357's don't always say you can shoot .38 specials either.

I have Marlin's most recent catalog and it says the 1894 chambered in 44mag will also shoot 44specials. 0 -
I just got my Big 5 1894 and it says in the manual it will handle 44 mags and 44 spls. 0 -
Now all you've got to do is get somewhere to shoot it. [:D]

It is safe to shoot them, but sometimes they won't feed the shorter shells consistently. Try running some thru it and see.........[8D] 0 -
Not "always," exactly -- there are a few semi-autos out there. For example, if one owned a semi-auto Desert Eagle in .44 Magnum, the slide might not cycle properly with .44 Specials, but hopefully a change-over to a lighter recoil spring would correct such a problem, as long as you remembered to change it back to shoot magnums again.
