Is the Romanian Dragunov any good? How easy is it to get the 7.62X54 to get? Is there one in 30.06? 0 -
David Fortier wrote a very through article on the "Romak 3" which is the civilian version ( imported in the US ) of the Romanian Military PSL, sniper/designated marksman rifle.
As far as I know, this Romanian Rifle ( Romak 3 ), internal operating mechanism is different from that of the Russian Dragunov, so can't be considered a true clone, there's just a cosmetic resemblance.
Fortier's article was first published in the 3/20/01 issue of the Shotgun News, then in the "2nd Annual Shotgun News Treasury Issue".

It jumps/kicks like a mule and the muzzle blast damn near knocks the guy standing beside you on his ass. Whats not to love
My dad used to own one, sold it after he kept getting hit in the glasses with the scope.0 -
The link given to you is very comprehensive. To boil it down; look at the difference in the distance between the trigger guard and the rear of magazine and the shape/location of the operating mechanism/ejection port. There is little more than a slight, cosmetic resemblace between the two. I essence the Romak is a dressed up AK-47 in many different chamberings whereas the Dragunov is a highly modified AK-47 TYPE (barely!) specifically chambered for the 7.62x54R roound. Compare a Porsche and a VW...both made in Germany and originally designed by Ferdinand Porsche, other than that they both do what they are supposed to do and do it well but the Bug won't do 0 to 60 in 5 seconds or pull a full lateral G in a corner...well, not and stay on its' wheels anyway! And at that, the Bug gets better mileage but just isn't all that exciting even in its' fiercest guise!
