how to safely dispose of unused/unwated ammo?
I have several boxes of unused ammo that I no longer need,
because I don't own any more guns in that caliber.
The local gunshops/ranges won't take them for safety/legal
reason.
None of my buddies have uses for these calibers...
What is the best legal/safe/enviromental-friendly way for me
to dispose of these ammo?
Thanks!

I put mine into about six feet of water in my pond. Theyaren't enough to harm anything and they corrode and disappear fast. 0 -
Do you have a kinetic bullet puller? You could always take these apart and sell the bullets and cases once you have fouled the primers withWD-40 to avoid haz-mat charges. The powder you can either use (perhaps not the best idea as you likely won't be able to identify it) or use it as fertilizer in the garden...it is usually a kind if nitrate so it makes flowers grow...strange but true.

Lik D@D said, send them to me because I probably have something to shoot them in![:D] All joking aside give them away on GB as a give-a-way. Many do it.

Yes! either give them away or pull the bullets and sell the components. Please don't throw them away....what a sad, sad, picture that would be to see a few rounds of ammo sitting in a trash can.

As a local gun shop owner, I take all the old, unneeded and unwanted ammo from whomever might have it and salvage the bullets and brass for my own use. I consider it a part of my doing business and have always offered such a service. In many cases, I will even buy the ammo if it is in the factory boxes. 0 -
Post a note at your gun club (range) I bet someone will take it.[:D]

Hmmmmmmm, just thinkin' out loud here. Since I work for a law firm, I'm inclined to be hesitent to "give" ammo away. Just playing Devil's advocate here, but, say I "give" some ammo to somebody, and for whatever reason, the firearm blows up while using said ammo.
I'd be hopin' I had some goooooooood insurance.
I think the "Pull the bullets and recyle/reuse the metal components" is the best idea.0 -
What caliber are they? These guys are correct, dont destroy them. Somebody always has a need for them and can be cash for you, whether whole or just the the brass etc. 0 -
P.S. If they are likely to blow up, give them to a lawyer. 0 -
Just keep them. You never know when the opportunity will come up to shoot them in some buds gun. 0 -
I knew someone that took them to the local National Guard Armory to have them disposed of. You know they will dispose of it properly, but it would be better to give them to someone that could use them. 0
