Difference between muzzle break and flash supp.

the reason I ask is I thought "flash hiders" weren't allowed on "post-ban" assault rifles, but I've seen pictures of rifles for sale on gunbroker.com with them. Are these "muzzle breaks" merely a cosmetic way around the law, or are they a different animal serving a different purpose and if so how can you tell the difference?

    Flash Suppressors are designed to keep the shooter from being "flash blinded" in low light conditions.
    Muzzle Brakes are designed to reduce the recoil by redirecting the muzzle gasses back toward the shooter.

    Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

    I got a pin-on muzzle brake in a bunch of ak/sks stuff I picked up from a fella cleaning out his "misc box" (and put it in my box).
    Anyway the 'brake' had 3 slots in the top, about 3/32 wide that went around the top half of the unit. I had fired a MAK-90 in the dark before, and the flash was pretty tough, but not as bad as most of my wheel guns. I did a side-by-side using one gun with and one without the brake. The camera we had running just recorded "white frames" on both firings, but to my sidekick and myself, I think the brake made the flash worse for the shooter. That my not be true, but it seemed that way.-- Oh yeah , it did semm to have an effect on reducing muzzle rise.



    If we do not hang together,
    We will most certainly hang separately.
