sight adjustment...help!!!!

I have to adjust some iron sights on a rifle. They are dovetailed in so its not the easiest of propositions and I want to get it right.

If the point of impact is right of the point of aim, which direction should I move the rear sight (assuming I am looking down the barrel)

  For a rear sight move it in the direction that you want to correct to. So if you want to move the PoI to the left you move the rear sight to the left.
  
  Front sight is dead opposite.
  
  
  
  If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!
