I dont know if this will be any help to you... About 1977 I got a 1911-A1 from colt, The gun went to Colts coustom shop and had a wide grip safety put on it, and Pachmayr grips. The Packmayr has the name "Colt" in the rubber.. and the "Gold Colt Medallion" With the Colt and the pony on the grip too. The wood grips that came with the gun has the "Gold Colt Medallion", looking at the back of the wood grips, I cant see anything (as in marks or name) [:)]

It will hurt you, More than it will hurt me..

Thanks, the reason I ask is, I purchased a pair from an outfit online. They look genuine, but a few emails I had with the seller before I bought them made them out to be very hard to come by. This past weekend I was at a gunshow and several vendors had gold cup medallion grips gallore. Had I the cash I could have bought a hundred pair. They all look genuine to me, so thats what got my curiosity up if perhaps there was an authentication marking on the inside of the grip, or something unique about the screw that holds them in etc, to set real apart from copy. Im not unhappy with my online purchase, I just paid more for it when you add in tax and shipping, and had a much smaller selection to choose from than what the gun show had to offer.

Colt uses a special punch to flare the flanges on the medallion. If the back looks like the photo below, I believe that it is likely that what you bought is Colt factory.
