O3 A3 springfield

I have a custom o3 a3 that was sporterized and rechambered for 6mm remington...jw...i don't have a problem yet but i was getting curious about this the other day...is it possible to "shoot-out" a barrel?... i take very good care of the gun and it shows no sign of rusting in the bore. Is it possible to have a gunsmith remove the barrel and put in a new one if i ever shot it out? or is there something they could do to put the rifling back into it?

    Since it was rebarreled to 6mm Rem, it could be done again. I cannot imagine you "shooting out" the barrel in your lifetime.

    When the rifle was customized to 6mm a new barrel would have had to been put on it so the answer is yes, if the barrel becomes "shot out" you can get another barrel, but unless you do a tremendous amount of shooting, or the barrel was not of good quality to begin with, you shouldn't have any worries about wearing out the barrel.

    You said the rifle was showing no signs, but something got you to worrying about this. So was it something you heard or read, or are you starting to suspect the very early signs of a problem and if so what are the signs you think your seeing?

    my advice, shoot the he// out of it ! at least until you think the rifiling or lack of [:D] starts effecting the accuracy. then take her to a smith and tell him to put you a barrel on.... e.r shaws are around 150.00 ish and lilja's are top of the line around 300 ish.

    in short yes the barrel can be changed......

    I've always followed my father's advice: he told me, first to always keep my word and, second, to never insult anybody unintentionally. If I insult you, you can be damn sure I intend to. And, third, he told me not to go around looking for trouble.

    it was just somthing i heard...i shoot alot but i don't shoot this gun a tremondous amount maybe 40-50 rounds a month at the most

    The greatest damage to bores is done while cleaning, not while shooting.

    Be sure that you use a cleaning rod with a bore guide to prevent the rod from rubbing the bore near the muzzle on guns that must be cleaned from the front. This shouldn't be a problem with bolt actions like the 03A3, which can easily be cleaned from the breech end.

    a 6mm with reasnable reloads and cleaning should give you hunting accuracy for 5,000 to 7,000 rounds, so @50 rds a month it should last about 10/12 years.
