Remington Model 11 won't feed from magazine

I bought a Remington model 11 several months ago and it has a problem with feeding shells from the magazine. The guns shoots good and I really like it but as soon as the shell in the magazine starts to come back out of the magazine (passed it's normal 'in the magazine position') it is stopping on a little flapper thing (sorry for the technical jargon). When I push the shell to the right, it gets around the flapper thing, gets shoved up to the bolt and slams into the chamber just like it should. I'm not too famliar with this design, but what the heck is that flapper thing and why is it hanging out there in the way of the shell. It is spring loaded and looks like it isn't retracting enough to get out of the way. It looks like it interacts with the barrel during recoil? And there is a cutout slot on the receiver, left hand side, that a portion of this thing sticks out of - just apparently not far enough out on mine. Any help would be appreciated - this gun would be really cool as a more than a single shot.

    KX500, Don't waste time looking for a magazine cutoff on the Remington Model 11. That was a feature found only on the Browning auto 5.

    If you are shooting light loads, your friction rings are probably set wrong on the magazine tube. They need to be changed depending on how heavy a load you are shooting. If they're set for a heavy load, a trap load won't work the action. I don't have the info in front of me, as I only shoot waterfowl loads from mine, (foe years..) but lotsa people here could tell you, and instructions at Browning's website should be applicable to the model 11. If you take the magazine cap off by unscrewing it (while holding the barrel down) there will be a spring on the tube, a brass "washer" concave on one side and flat on t'other, and a slotted friction ring. These need to be placed in different positions depending on the load you are shooting.

    the ring needs togo on the bottom of the spring flat side down then the spring then the piston bevel side up then the barrel.

    chasjr1, I believe you have described the adjustment for light loads. It would be different for heavy loads.

    wright it was for the light loads the heavy loads you move the bottom ring up tp the top of the spring flat side up
