Walther P22 question

I recently bought a Walther P22 with the 5 inch barrel and I have noticed the the compensator wiggles form side to side slightly (about 1/8") is this normal? If not what can be done about it?

    Does anyone know if the compensator on the 5" barreled model can be removed to expose the barrel underneath? I dont like the looks of the compensator, but if i bought one i would want the 5" barrel. I think it would look better without the comp and just 2 inches of exposed barrel.

    Im thinking of trading in another .22 pistol of mine straight up for a p22 but i want at least 5" of barrel but without the comp.

    Tighten the screws that hold the "compensator" VERY, VERY CAREFULLY" as they strip easily.I returned mine to S&W for the magazine problem and when it was returned the screws were stripped so back it went and they replaced the "compensator" with the caveat to NOT OVERTIGHTEN the allen screws.As the comp. is a cosmetic feature and does nothing for the function of the weapon I took mine off.It looked like a pretty girl with bad teeth.Don't put any threadlocking substances on those allens or we're back to stripped threads when you try to disassemble again.Good luck with it.Mine's a great poodle shooter as my Gramps referred to "plinkers"

    What you are refering to as a compensator is not what that thing is. The piece on the front of the barrel is nothing more than a cover that takes up the extra 1 1/2 inches in front of the slide with the longer barrel in place,look closely at the slits,they stop about 1/16 deep and do not go all the way through, they are just cosmetic. The P-22 is however a good quality gun, and as long as you stay on top of things it should give you a lifetime of enjoyment...
