Bar misfiring
my BAR in 300 win mag misfires most of the time. The primer is dented, but not enough. Gunsmith said he honed burr off fining pin. It still does not work. No help from Browning. Could firing pin be too short from factory?

Occasionally my BAR 30-06 will "click" (misfire) if I do not pull the bolt all the way back and let it slam forward inserting a round into the chamber. For example, used to when I get in the deer stand (trying to be quiet), after loading the magazine I pulled the bolt back and eased it forward by hand closing the chamber. Must have been some miniscule space there between the pin and the primer and it would misfire. No dent in the primer though that I could tell. Clicked on a couple of deer until I figured it out.
You might try letting it slam forward and see if that helps. Just a suggestion.

Hi ""pphillips"" I've been useing the BAR rifle for 32 years and had the problem twice once it was a broken fireing pin ( only shot if held at a upward angle) and the other time had a good cleaning and it worked ever since so I have it cleaned by an auoritized Browning repair shop that knows how to disasemble completely Now both my boys shoot them and we never have had a problem you didn't mention which model you have as all 17 that I have are the old ones made in Belgium and not the assembled in portigul ones could be a bad fireing pin spring or the hammer spring they are a great rifle good luck Lee 0 -
could be a broken timing latch, or pin, weak hammer spring, weak action spring (not closing the action all the way), or bent firing pin. 0
