Mauser Action Binding

I have a 6mm Rem. built on a Mauser action by Fred D. Speiser back in the early 90s. I received this gun used and dont know much about it.
The problem I have is the bolt seems to be binding when I attempt to retract it. The bolt lugs lock up fine and everything is properly lubricated. The binding starts about a third of the way back. You actually have to smack the bolt handle with the palm of your hand to get it to the rear. I was hoping someone could direct me on what to check to fix this problem.

    Loosen the rear action screw, and try it than.

    Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

    goodmorning & welcome.
    I will bet the problem is a bent extractor. If you know how to strip the bolt, simply remove the extractor & straighten. if not, check with a 'smith, should only take him a couple minutes.

    I have no idea on how to take apart the bolt on this Mauser since these are the first ones I ever got to play with. I have mechanical experience with several weapons platforms so if someone could explain it I should be able to follow or anyone have a link on the "How To". I will need to get my screw driver set out of the shop on Monday but will try the rear action screw. The screw heads are engraved and I dont want to bugger them. I will admit for a 1800s design Peter Paul & Wilhelm sure did a nice job.

    Assuming it has a stock (or replacement thereof) safety, cock and close the bolt. Flip the safety all the way clockwise, than open the bolt. As you withdraw the bolt, pull the boltstop/ejector box out to the side (that's the "box thingy" on the left side of the receiver) and remove the bolt.
    At this point you can unscrew the bolt shroud/firing pin assembly from the bolt body.
    To remove the extractor, push the front outwards with your thumb until the "leg" clears the groove in the bolt, and twist it around the bolt until the "leg" is sitting on the surface. Now push the extractor forward off it's dovetail on the extractor ring.
    To strip the bolt shroud/firing pin assy, press the tip of the firing pin into a piece of hardwood (don't use the dining room table top) and pull down on the shroud, compressing the spring. Rotate the firing pin extension 90deg and lift off. Release the spring pressure slowly, and lift the shroud off the firing pin.
    Assemble in reverse order, being sure to have the safety in the full clockwise position before trying to screw the bolt back together. Remember this bolt was designed to be taken apart by draftees working in a muddy foxhole under moonlight with no tools (military buttstocks have a place on them for the pin tip), so you shouldn't need anything more than a well fitted screwdriver(s) in the way of tools.

    WALLE: here is another thing to check.

    You do have a scope mounted on it dont you?

    Are you rear base screws to long.

    You said that the binding starts about a third of the way back when you pull the bolt back. There a guide on the bolt, that just so happens to be in this position that will be in contact with these screws if they are too long.

    I had the same problem with my 6mm thats built on a 98 action also.
