Lefever Experts?
Have a 12 gauge double SST marked "DS" and "O" on right side inside under barrel. Extracters but no auto ejectors. Double triggers. Marked LEFEVER ARMS CO. SYRACUSE, N.Y U.S.A. on right side and left sides. Patented 1872,88,90,94,1907. Does anyone know what it is? What's the difference between "sidelock" and "boxlock"? TIA

First we'll start with your gun... A very nice field gun with DS indicating the lowest grade. DSE would have had ejectors, but neither model would have had cocking indicators. A very rough guess as to value (90% condition) would be somewhere in the $1,000 range. Just understand that this number is VERY subjective.
Box Locks / Side locks - Internal differences notwithstanding, a box lock receiver will end just forward of the front trigger. A side lock will have two plates that extend rearwards on both sides of the stock. Generally a side lock is considered a higher quality piece than a box lock, but I've come to believe it's more in the eye of the beholder than anything else. Witness a D.M. Lefever boxlock.

That would be... EXCEPT WINCHESTERS. They are reputed to have made fine rifles in the distant past, but their best attempt at a scattergun was a Browning invention and UGLY![;)]
