Browning Gold or Winchester super X 2?
I have narrowed the choice down to these two but I just can't decide on the best gun for my duck hunting. I may or may not ever need the 3.5 capability but i want the option! Any feedback that may help me decide would be appreciated

I hunt waterfowl in some pretty rough conditions and a few years ago I bought a Browning Gold Hunter in 12ga. The Mud , Duckweed, Sawgrass etc...Played hell on it and it would not function on occasion when dirty. Shells would not eject, or feed properly. When kept clean, It seemed okay. I sold it and went back to a pump-gun!....Just sharing my experience with you, Good-Luck!

I appreciate the input. I Live on the texas coast and all that crap would definately find its way into my gun. My son in law shoots an 870 special purpose Magnum with a 23.5 inch barrell. Its deadly at skeet and would save me quite a bit initally so i may just reconsider and go with the pump. Just hope my reflexs arent so slow i only get one shot ha ha. Thanks 0 -
My son uses a Rem 870 and I use an Ithaca 37 {3" mag reciever} and they both go trough hell every season and never let us down! I was really disapointed in the Browning. I always heard good about them. I guess if you hunted from a clean blind or a boat they would do fine but we really get into some rough places chasing quack and we like to have reliable tools to take em!

Pootnshoot: I shot a pump gun for years, but as I grew older and the ducks got faster, I switched to an auto. Autos can be very tempermental. You have to keep them clean, clean, and clean. dirty gas ports, unburnt powder residue, and the typical stuff that comes from walking through thick cover, they don't like that. However the recoil is less than a pump. I bought a Browning Gold Shadow Grass 5 seasons ago, I've never had any problems with it, I've used it for doves, ducks, geese, and pheasants. It's only a three inch and most of the time I only shoot 2&3/4in. shells through it and it serves me well. I will admit I don't shoot steel and haven't for about 10 years, but that's aother story. ( I do use non-toxic shells for waterfowl, just not steel) I like the Shadowgrass camo on the gun, as opposed to just blued steel, it protects the metal from a lot. Plus the stocks are composite, so you don't worry about dinging the walnut.
Would I buy another one, yes I would. Hope this helps you. Regards Dave0 -
They are basically the same gun. Both made by the same manufacturer just that one is a little prettier and wears the browning name. I would shoot the rem. 870 any day. Too much to go wrong with an autoloader.

Here is a link that reviews both http://www.galleryofguns.com/shootingtimes/Articles/GunRev_Main.asp
Personally, I would choose the Benelli Nova over a Remington 870.0 -
Be carefull, The Winchester Qulity is Droping AGAIN. We just got a new Winchester Pump in the shop Yeasterday and it would not lock up. Boxed it back up and sent it back. This was a Pump, We have had a Auto super X 2 sitting on the shelf fer about six Mo. now, and several Winchester Rifles that dont move. 0
