Taurus Raging Bull
I have another quick question. I have an opportunity to buy a Taurus Raging Bull in .454 Casull at what I consider a good price, except that I don't know much about the quality of this line of firearms. I know that the Raging Bull is available in most of the super huge pistol calibers available today, and that testosterone thing in me wants to buy a .454 Casull. Is it worth it at around $400.00?

I am looking at one of these for a pig gun and wanted to know what people that own them think?
44mag or 454 Casull, 8inch.
How do they hold up?
Accuracy?
Recoil of a 454?
Muzzle blast with the porting while hunting? How bad is it?0 -
Taurus seems to be developing quite a following and is by no means a cheaply made gun. I to have lusted over one of these and, myself, would have grabbed one at that price. It isn't a Ruger Redhawk, but it isn't $600 either. Most gun rags seem to feel they are a premium gun, espec. with the grips they come with. Ammo for all of them is sadly still rather pricey. 0 -
unless it,s been abused, that is a super buy. check the top strap above rhe rear of the barrel for flame cutting. I can't see anyone shooting a gun like that enough to hurt it but if it's seen a lot of use, it'll show there. try it out & if you decide "hand cannons" aren't for you, you can put it up at auction & turn a profit. (or sell it to me)

They are well made and it's a good price. You didn't mention barrel length or finish, but as an example MSRP on a 5 inch is $797 in Blue and $859 in stainless.
Now those are new gun suggested retail prices. They can be found in shops for less than that amount.
In used but top condition condition they will 65-75%+ of retail, and the market does vary quite a bit from one part of the country to the other. But at $400 you can see that the price is well below even the minimum percentage that I've listed.
454 is a handful and even someone that is very "recoil tolerant" will most likely not have put many down the barrel. The situation here is probably the reverse and the owner don't care for the "mule that is kickin 'em". I seen that just a couple months back. Fella goes on waiting list for S&W 500, it comes in, he shells out just of $1,000 w/ tax and is happy as a can be. Week before last I hear from a mutual friend that he up and sold it for $800 because he just couldn't take the recoil. Of course another version I heard from another acquaintance is that he conned his wife into firing it (she does occasionally fire 44 Mag. and handles it) and it came back and cracked her one, and with a little "stretch" I could see him pullin a dumb stunt like that. Regardless the revolver went for better than $200 less than he paid about 90 days after he bought it.
Lastly, if you do buy it and don't like it ... don't sell it to Jim (cussdemguns) he's already got a couple 454 "bear repellers" and I have none so it would be better (for me) if you gave me a shout.[:D]

Well, I guess I just opened a whole can of worms here! I will most assuredly go check this out and probably buy it. If I don't like it, I'll let cussedemgun and Contender Man know it's up for auction! Of course, all y'all can bid too. That's only if I don't like it. OOOHRAH!!!! 0 -
I hope I made it clear that I would put it up for PUBLIC AUCTION, if I do at all. If I wasn't clear on that, I sincerely apologize. That was my intention. 0 -
Don't worry about it. Comments more toward the fellas with more experience ( like me[:(] ) that should have known better than to goof around.
Keep coming back and posting questions ...
