    It'd have to be repaired unless you wanted to just replace it. Usually the crack can be filled with resin and held together in a press until it cures. The finish can be redone to mask the repair if done right.

    IF YOU HAVE A SHOOTER I USE "SHOE GOOP" ON THE INSIDE. USE A LARGE RUBBER BAND TO HOLD THE PARTS TOGETHER UNTIL DRY. WORKS VERY WELL

    I WOULD RATHER BE DUCK HUNTING.

    I've got one on my Winchester 1400, same place, not as wide.
    Looks like it cracked years ago and is not getting any bigger, so I've just left it alone.

    tell you what. ill do you a favor and just get the dang thing out of your sight. just mail it to me and we can forget the whole thing ever happened. cuz im such a good guy[:D]

    btw...cracks at the breech end are from recoil. cracks near the cap are from over tightening. tighten it as far as it will go and then back off one click.
