Shooting an 1851 Navy Replica ..maybe

I recently picked-up an Uberti 1851 Navy replica. It has a clear gap between the end of the cylinder and the beginning of the barrel. I know there is supposed to be a gap, but this seems large. Anyone have any info on what the gap dimension should be???

I really appreciate it...

  Is the barrel retaining wedge pushed all the way in? If so the gun is in need of service. The wedge is supposed to pull the barrel up tight against the cylinder. On my Uberti 1851 clone there is very little clearance, just enough to allow the cylinder to turn, a .003 feeler gauge will not even begin to go in and the wedge isn't more than 1/2 way in.

  Is your flush witht he hammer at rest or at full cock. As I cock the pistol the cylinder moves up slightly towards the barrel (something I didn't expect) to being almost flush.

  If the gap is too large the hammer wont reach the cap.
  My Colt Army Stainless 44 has a .009" gap.

  As stated the gap must be tight otherwise the cylinder play will prevent the hammer from popping the cap hard enough to set it off if it even contacts it. Take it to a gunsmith to see if it can be fixed and tightened up if the frame stretch isn't too severe.
