Mine works the same way. I Bought it second hand.
DA works fine without a round but not with the chamber full of 9X18 Winchester brass.
The problem is that the slide isn't home yet and the interupter is preventing the proper trigger arm-hammer connection (I believe).
Try it with ~EMPTY~ shells in 9mm mak and .380ACP calibers. The .380 will chamber (being slightly shorter) and the slide is all the way home, allowing the Double action pull to work. I'm guessing the fix is to lengthen the chamber or fix the barrel in the correct place. I think mucking about with the interupter would be a poor idea allowing slam fire or full automatic operation. Fixing the chamber or barrel is beyond my amateur smithing ablities. <sigh>
Have you fixed yours yet and how?

    Thanks,

    TJ.

Why are they sold as surplus, yet they are brand new. They are junk.

I am not familiar with the Polish P64, so perhaps it is a bit different from the Russian Makarov.

Many Russian Makarovs were made for export (note the "adjustable sporting sights", which allowed them import status). I have three of these Russian export models (2 in .380 and 1 in 9milRusky) and in my opinion they are one of the most reliable guns in the world. One of the few guns that I trust completly. They are rough and clunky, but like the Everready rabbit and the Timex, they...........

As far as interchanging the .380acp in place of the 9x18mm Russian ammo, I would not actually FIRE the .380 in the 9mil gun and certainly not vice versa.

The P64 is way different from a Russian Makarov. I almost bought the P64 but it would not work double action. An FFL dealer/friend told me he spent $45 dollars to clean up the action and make it work for a customer. He said he wouldn't have one. I bought a Russian Makarov that was a little rough looking. I took it to the range and after firing Rugers, Walther PPKs, and some other pistols, I didn't expect much from the Mak. It ended up having the best trigger and shot great groups. I was very impressed with this gun and kept it. I passed on the P64 which is not a true Makarov, it simply fires that round.

By the way, I picked up a PA-63. It shoots okay but the decocker takes gorilla strength to work. I still like the Mak the best
