Custom Rifles, Rifles Inc.

I am looking at purchasing a custom rifle, and I am looking at a Rifles Inc Classic Remington M700 in .270. I was looking for anyone who may have some experience/comments with this company? I was also looking at HS Precison or a Dakota M97 Hunter all in the same caliber?

    All 3 companies are tops in custom rifles. I would add one more: http://www.newultralight.com/ as a fourth. The reason I mention NULA is that it balances out your search from two fairly large companies; HS Precision and Dakota Arms (now owned by an investment group) as compared to Rifles, Inc. (Les Webernick) and NULA (Melvin Forbes); both individually owned by the Gunmaker's themselves. The quality of all 4 firms is some of the best that can be gotten based on similar pricing and models. There isn't that much difference between them as long as you are comparing only the lightweight hunting rifles. Dakota can get way out of sight if you want exhibition grade wood instead of a synthetic.

    My personal preference would be to go with an individual maker since they can be much more responsive to a customer's wants, needs and desires. Your communicating with the person who will making your rifle not just an order taker. But as I said above, there is nothing wrong with any of the four. Pick the stock that you like, the color or camoflage, barrel length and chamber then send them your money and get in line. It will be just like Christmas when it arrives!

    I guess that I should point out that there will be a difference between how magazines can be handled. If you like a DBM style then HS will be your best choice. If you go with a "lite" rifle, be sure that you will be satisfied with the forearm. They can be a little flimsy but check with the maker to be sure. Also, check guarantee/warranty with each.

    Some other names that should be added to the mix are Charlie Sisk of Sisk Rifles and Jeff Hicks of HD Rifles. I have a Borden but they are pricey. If money is not a concern, you cant beat Jim's rifles. I tend to shy away from HS because I hate their stocks. The McMillan is the way to go for a synthetic handle.
