7mm rem. mag ammo
Hello,
What 7mm rem. mag. ammo should I use for bore hunting. It is being shot out of a ruger M77. Are corlocks the way to go? 145-155 gr. ?

I would go with 155gr and if you do your part you'll have some bacon.[:p] 0 -
fed premium 150gr NBT shoots like a bench gun in my sendero and NEVER loses a deer,..not even at 400-500yds.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

You said (typed) "bore", but I assume you are talking "boar" (pig) hunting. I'd use a tougher bullet on pigs than a Ballistic Tip bullet. I've killed them with the NBTip bullet but they will sometimes come apart if they hit heavy bone ,etc. The core-lokt bullets work well if your gun will shoot them accurately, but some guns won't. Nosler Partitions are always a good choice or any of the premium bullets. I'd go with 150gr or heavier. For factory ammo Federal Premium is always good, but Remington Core-Lokt will work. They stay together and penetrate well.-- It kills them just as dead as the high dollar ammo. -- Good luck......[8D] 0 -
I don't shoot the 7mm magnum but I had a friend who could not get his rifle to shot to the accuracy level he was looking for in a hunting load. I talked him into trying the Speer 145 grain Grand Slam bullet on top of a medium load of RL22 powder with a Federal 215 primer. He now swears by that bullet and load. Says it kills deer and hog better than anything he has ever tried; and the accuracy is outstanding according to him. 0 -
If I were you I would load one load for all. I loaded the 160 Nosler Partition to 3000+. I do not remember the exact load. If you buy the Federal Premimum load with the 160 NP it will do everything for you no matter what you hunt up to and including elk.[^]

I just got a box from the local wally world with 3 bad rounds in it. This was 7mm rem mag 150gr core-lokts. There was no rim for the extractor to grab on it at all. I sent an email to remington about it; they said that I should give tha ammo to the cops. I am going to pull the bullet, powder, and primer and put into one of my rounds after I get the dies. That way I did not waste that much money. I can't belive that they did not offer me any discount on my next box of ammo. Well I have bought there ammo when ever I didn't have the brass or ammo loaded but that will not happen any time soon. I will now buy a different brand of ammo. Does any one have another choice?
Sorry for venting but I now need a different brand of ammo.

RYAN,..fed prem with the 150gr Nosler Balistic tip has shot well in every rifle we have run it through,..all of different makes as well.
also,..press a little harder and remington will send you a new box of ammo. We had one round that wouldn't chamber in a 300RUM,.they told us to send it back and they sure enough sent a certificate for a whole new box. Just push them a little bit,..

Well I just got off the phone with them. They now want me to send in the bad rounds. So lets do a little math here. Shipping $ 2.00
Hazmat fee $20.00
My Time $More $$
Not worth my time or money.
Cost of new box of different brand of ammo: under $22.00

ammo does not fall under hazmat fees. Put them in a small box,..wrap them in an old sock,..and send them back. You don't pay hazmat when you have ammo shipped to you by catalog order,..so why pay it to ship them back? That only apllies to Powder or Primers.
We got a whole new box for one bad round,..prety good deal.

I would recommend the Remington Swift Sciracco 150 gr. It is the flatest shooting and retains more energy than any Remington 7mm bullet regardless of weight. You can check it out on the Remington site.
