Remington 870 20 ga Barrel
Fellas, I have a very nice older 870 with 2-3/4" chamber, VR barrel choked Full. I've seen some nice multi-choke tube 870 barrels at attractive prices but I think all have been 2-3/4" - 3" chambers. Surely that barrel will make up to my gun? I'm not interested in shooting 3" shells. I just want the versatility of the interchangeable chokes. Do you know whether the newer barrel will fit up and function okay on my gun? Thanks. Tim

it depends on how old your 20 ga is , the old 20 ga was made on the 12 frame . most people refer to these as standard or large ring models , you can check to see which one you have by measuring the inside dia. of the mag tube ring on a newer 20 gauge they go about 7/8" inside dia. and on the older models they go about a full 1" inside dia, also on the newer 20 ga they should say LW 20 2 3/4 or LT 20 2 3/4 on the left side of the barrel, 0 -
I recently bought a Hastings barrel for my 870. Perfect fit, takes choke tubes, and set me back $125. (used) 0 -
Skyhawk, Orca - Thanks for the replies. I think mine is not so early as the "large ring" - I'll take it to the shop Saturday and see if a new barrel will fit on mine. I guess if it will fit up then it will function okay? Load shells, shuck empties? I'll try it out. 0 -
yes any on the newer barrels will fit just be advised that your gun was made for 2 3/4" shells so even thru you can put a 3 inch chamber barrel on your frame you should only shoot 2 3/4" shells, the only barrel THAT WILL NOT FIT is one that is for a special field model, these models had a shorter mag tube so the ring is closer to the frame 0
