LC Smith ID and value
I have a LC Smith 16 gauge hammerless serial # FWE71XX, 28 inch barrels with excellent blue. Barrels say LC Smith Field and armor steel. Case colors are visible but dulling. Wood is real nice with no cracks or dings. Not sure of chokes. Can anyone tell me when this gun was built, and idea of its value. Thanks

I have a Hunter arms L.C Smith with barrels maked Armour steel. Patten dates are on the inside of the action and on the plate of the forearm.
I don't know if this is any help and patten dates don't nessessarilly mean when the gun was made.

Serial no. would seem to indicate a non-Hunter gun. Please furnish all the stamping on the barrel tops.
If I had a guess right now I'd say a Marlin gun. I'd also guess ejectors, but you'll have to confirm such.

Just did a bit more searching... If a Hunter gun, then late 1946. A 16 ga. won't command a premium, but ejectors vs. extractors will. In 90% condition I wouldn't be surprised if the gun could quite easily fetch $1,000.00, but I'd really have to see and hold it to be sure.0 -
warcrob: thanks for the welcome!!
nord: I was called away this morning after I had asked for help on the 16 gauge. I have to leave again and probably wont get back tell Monday evening. I will get the guns out then and try to give you more info. I bought my first LC about 3 months ago and just bought several more LC Smiths in a package deal and would like to know more about them. Thanks0 -
Col. William Brophy wrote a book on L.C. Smith shotguns but I can't recall the name of it. It is a very interesting book about the history of the maker and does list production dates. The L.C. Smith was manufactured in just about any grade a person desired. The book also lists the codes for the various grades.
Check with your local library for a copy!

KDMRANCH, "FWE" stands for featherweight ejector. Without knowing what, if anything is roll-stamped on the top of the left barrel, your gun appears to be a 1919 production made by Hunter Arms. 0 -
For a small fee ( $150.00 ) the Cody Museum will welcome you as a member and tell you all about your gun, if their records permit. They also have a ton of fringe bennys.
