trouble with my remington 1100
I have an older (15-20yrs) 1100 20ga. When you fire a round the action will only go back halfway and will not eject the spent round. It doesn't stick half open it closes by itself. I have cleaned and oiled it better than new, and this has not solved the problem. I have also swapped the rings off another 1100 and still no luck. When you manually pull back the action it goes back smooth until it gets halfway back. At that point it hits something and gets hard to pull back. When I say hard I dont mean that you have to pull with all your might. With my other 1100 20 you dont have that. Thanks for any help!!

When you say cleaned and oiled, does that mean you actually ASSURED that the gas port was open and clean? I assume since you have other 1100's that you are aware that the port size sometimes gets reduced and you must push a pipe cleaner or similiar object thru it. I also recomend you buy a new ring to assure proper seal. All this being done, disassemble the action and assure no "bends" or disfigurement of any siding parts. Past that, we need to go to a gunsmith unless someone else knows a few "tricks".
Good luck0 -
I know it sounds simple, but are you sure you have the piston, seal and O-ring oriented and installed correctly?
Here's a link to a parts diagram for reference:

if there is oil on the magazine tube,..it won't eject. DRY that magazine tube of any lubricant and try it again. That is how I learned about the 1100 and oil. I clean my tube with gasoline or break cleaner and then wipe it clean.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

sp306: since you say the action, (assume you mean the breech bolt) only opens half way manually and it hits some thing hard. It's not the gas ports, or to much oil on the mag tube. Remove the but plate, and remove the stock from the receiver. There is a tube and spring in the butt stock and it sounds like thats where it is bindind, or jammed. Not many people remove the stocks and clean this and it does collect powder residue and water from hunting in the rain. Also remove the barrel assy, and remove the slide that the breech bolt is on, you'll see a small object that has Looks like a "T" with two legs or two arms on it, this unit is what actually slides back into the stock, if by some chance it is bent or popped out earlier it will prevent the breech bolt from going all the back. sp306; Forgot to tell you it's best to pop out and remove the two pins and trigger guard assy, when you are looking for the "T" that sits right behind the action assy. that the breech bolt is on. You will be able to see if it's poped out of the hole that goes into the butt stock. Regards Dave 0 -
Sounds like the recoil tube to me,as onlywinchesters said take the recoil spring and follower out and run a Bore brush that fits snug into the recoil tube and scrub it out with rem-oil then check the tube for any bends or nicks and the condition of the spring and follower aswell. Also Make sure that the Gas port holes in the barrel gas block are clean and free of dirt with a piece of wire If these are clogged it will short cycle aswell. One last thing make sure
you install a NEW gas ring just because it looks good it may not be
sealing right. You have a Great shotgun there and will last you several
lifetimes of hunting if cared for.

If the rest of the suggestions fail remove the to pins holding in the trigger and pull out the fork it looks like a tuning fork. this could be bent or one side of the fork is broken stopping the bolt when it moves backwards buy hitting the back of the stock instead of sliding all the way back in the stock.[:)]

With your description of the symptoms, I too would agree with old_winchesters (what's he know about a Remington anyway *just teasin') [:D] 0
