old enfields value
I have a old enfield, marked "No 4 Mk 1" it is chambered in 303 british. the serial number is 40C3175, dated 1943. has a large"S" above the date below the serial number. Any ideas on value?
I also just found a 300 win mag, I think this is a mauser. Not certain what model. It has no names/model numbers to identify the gun. the only marks on the gun are a circle with wings on one side on the back side of the receiver. Also has several "E"'s stamped on various parts. The gun has a box magazine with base plate that opens by using a little hole in the back of the plate near the trigger guard, very difficult to open. The bolt release is on the side of the receiver, like a ruger. There is a large "H" groove where the front sight should be, this is cut into the barrel. Just below this is the letters "JA" and a circle with flames coming out the top, kinda looks like a bomb. No serial number.
Any ideas would be great.

Your first rifle sounds like a #4 Enfield, if in original condition it should bring $100-200, depending on condition. Look in the auctions, there's always a few for sale, and compare.
The other rifle sounds like a P17 enfield, actually made in the U.S. It is probably an Eddystone, from all the parts marked with an E. This has been reworked to be a hunting rifle in 300 Win. Mag. Originally it would have been 30-06. These sell in the same in the same price range as the Enfields, again depending on condition. Look in the auctions under P17 and you might find one to compare yours to. Good luck.
