Gun value on altered gun
I`m currently looking at a few rifles in an estate sale. One in
particular is a Remington Gamemaster Mod.141 in .35cal.I`d rate it
at about 75%. The owner must have had a liking for peep sights and
had one installed. The rear sight was removed and is missing. How much
would this alteration detract from any value.Any input would be
appreciated. Thanks

Hello slyboney...
Depending on what type of peep sight has been installed, the value reduction could be as little as "next to nothing", to as much as 50%. Of course, one must first realize that the Model 141 is NOT a collector grade firearm, and even if in 100% condition is not likely to exceed $450.

From the Blue Book:
Remington Model 141/141A Slide Action Rifle:
80% - $195
70% - $165
Add 10% for .35 Rem. cal.
Those prices are for an "original" rifle. If you don't like the peep sight.....well, offer whatever it's worth to you.0 -

Thanks for the info. Its a 141A. 0 -
I have seen VERY few model 141's in any grade but the 141A. Unfor. there is very little info. on these guns out there. Less than 77,000 total made over 14 years. Are you sure the peep sight was added? Have read that some might have come out of factory with peep sight. If it orig. came with a reg. sight on back, there would be a slit on rear of barrel for sight. I will buy any model 141 in 80% for the above mentioned price($195). 0 -
The peep sight is a Williams. It is a much darker blue and does
not have the same patina as the rest of the rifle. Also, there is what appears to be a flat blank base in the dove tail for rear sight.
These Williams peep sights are also on a few of the other rifles in
the estate sale. This leads me to suspect it was an add on.

I SOLD ONE HERE ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO FOR $250 WITH AN ORIGINAL 'PEEP' SIGH (MOUNTED ON THE REAR ON THE RECIEVER) ABOUT 70%. 0 -
Slyboney, there are a few of these 141's on G.B. now. I think all are around the $400 mark. Most are the common .35 Rem. The .30 and .32 go for a bit more and the elusive .25 is only a dream.[xx(] 0 -
