Colt Python Value
I have a 357 Magnum Colt Python handed down by my dad which is nickel plated and has pearl handels. According to the serial number, it dates back to around 1968. It is in good condition, and I am wanting to find out a ballpark figure on it's worth.

I have the chance to pick up a 1960 Colt Python, 6", Royal blue, from the original owner. It is 98% because he has fired 50 rounds through it. Grips are perfect, finish is also, except for the ever-present cylinder ring (it is faint but there).
No box or owners manual.
He wants $850.00. What do you guys think?
Thanks in advance.

I think about 650 is as high as I would go with box and papers. But I am a cheap SOB.

For my area (N. Ohio) that is about high side of market on 'em and I would not go that high. But, Colt selling prices are all over the place and there can be some big swings just between parts of the country.

I have a 1961 Python, 6". It has some slight holster wear on the muzzle and the front of the trigger guard. No box, no papers, and came with Pachmayr's. I paid just under $600. I'm a shooter not a collector and have always wanted a Python to take to the range. $650 for ANY Python is a good price. Just look on the GB auctions and you'll see how ridiculous some of the prices are. It's almost as bad as the prices people are asking for a Garand.
Buy it and keep it to look at if you want, but once you shoot the first round you'll understand the Python mystic.0 -
The early guns draw a little premium around here, but I see a lot of the same $800-$900 Pythons sitting on the tables of the same dealers, month after month, at the local shows.
I'd say if the guy wants to sell it he'll take $700 tops for it.0 -
Thanks guys! Based on your opinions I gave $700.00 for it!
Can't wait to shoot it!!
