Yes, at least some do work. I have Talley mounts and rings that work perfectly, and Warnes are also reliable. Talley mounts are high end quality and high priced. The Warnes are more reasonable.

thanks for the info he dog

it's not the type of gun you have in the heat of a battle that counts, only if you have enough ammo for it, lets face it, a gun without ammo is only as good as a base ball bat!!

Stallion, NO detachable mount that I am familiar with will go back to exact point of aim, but most will go back to within an inche or less(most less than 1/2"), which for hunting purposes is still on target. If a 1 inch movement of the point of impact is all you loose, then you can't really blame a miss out to 300 yards or so on a deer sized animal on the scope mount and rings. The above mentioned rings are good but so are Leupold and weaver. Detachable mounts and rings are for hunters --not bench rest shooters. I've used them for years and find no fault with them and long as they are properly installed and used correctly.

thanks muchly for all the input gentleman and/or ladies, this give me some ideas to go on, i wanted 2 scopes for all my guns, one for hunting and one for target/varmint. but did'nt want to have to buy 2 gun in each cal.(one fitted with target, one fitted with a hunting scope)so this sounds like a viable alternitive to me.just need to by 2 scopes and detachable mounts, take acouple of shoots to bring it back to zero, and away i go
    thanks again,
    ed

Another reason to go with this style of ring is so that you can carry a back up scope for long distance hunting trips. Zero the back up, then box and put on the primary scope. If Murphy gets involved you don't have to rely on iron sights to finish your hunt. I'm a long time fan of Warne's "Maxima" mounts as they are Weaver standard but with Warne's quality.
