Peep sights with micrometer
I have a question regarding the sights on a target Remington 30-S Express. I need to know who makes the sight? The receiver sight has a stamped circle with a deer, who has a rifle pointed at it. The front sight has a number 77H stamped on it. Any information will be greatly appreciated. ( Thank you very much guys).

Hello bigbadbob...
The rear sight is a Lyman No. 48R, and the front sight is a Lyman No. 77 (the "H" indicates a .773" height).

The 30S went out of production prior to World War II. If the receiver sight is contemporary with the rifle, it's likely that the manufacturer has gone out of business.
Your best bet for identifying the sight is to get a copy of Nick Stroebel's book "Old Gunsights" it covers sights made between 1850 to 1965. If it's like his scope book, it will have pictures and reproductions of original advertising material. Hopefully you'll be able to identify the receiver sight from the pictures.
