I am looking to get a single action revolver. Does anyone have any suggestions on Rugers or Berettas? Or any other brands for that matter. Probably in 45 Colt.

I have one Ruger single action and two double action. By the end of the week, I hope to have another Ruger single action. I've been shooting Ruger revolvers for 13 years. They are totally reliable, accurate and a pleasure to shoot. Pick a caliber, make your purchase and have some fun.

A couple of questions if you want us to give you a good recomendation.
    1. What do you want to use it for? (hunting -small or large game, target shooting , plinking)
    2. What is your budget?
    3. How much shooting experience do you have?
Give us something to work with and we will help narrow your choices down.

I have owned or shot many of the SA revolvers. It all depends what you want.

Are you looking for a "cowboy gun" or a single action hunting weapon?

    Chorkie,
I will use it for recreational shooting (no pressure, just for fun)
I can afford a good quality gun but, I don't need a custom gun. I am looking at something along the price range of the brands I mentioned.
I have many years of shooting experiance. I have just not had a single action revolver in other than 22 cal.
I also do not want stainless steel.
Just wondered what the best bang for the buck was.

Vaquero. Can't go wrong with the Vaquero. I have one in 44mag 7.5 bbl, one in 45 colt 5.5 bbl, and a bisley 44mag on the way. In my experience, they are accurate enough (with prudent practice) to hunt with and a ton of fun at the range. Try one of these and call me in the morning![:p]

The Rugers, being bigge heavier guns are made for highpressure loads if the need arises...the clones and real colts are not.
The colts and clones are slimmer and better balanced,IMHO,and John Wayne did'nt shoot no Ruger,by golly. :)
The guns that Cimmaron imports from Uberti are real nice.I have seen but not shot the new Berettas',but am gueesing they are good from Pards I've talked to.
do you do yor own 'smithing? the clones seem to take a bit of tinkering to keep 'em running...more than rugers anyway.
If you go clone, most of the new ones have a coil spring hand spring,a la ruger.great way to go.The old flat hand springs are famous for breaking.
    Hope I've helped. ;)

Throckmortons' the alias, cas is the game.

THE RUGER SINGLE ACTIONS ARE BY FAR THE BEST FOR YOUR DOLLAR.
THEY HAVE A WIDE SELECTION OF CALIBERS , BARREL LENGHT'S, AND OFFER FIXED SIGHTS , ADJ. SIGHTS , OR THE HUNTER MODEL WITH VERY SOLID SCOPE MOUNT AND RINGS INCLUDED . BUY THE RUGER AND YOU WILL NOT BE
SORRY BUY ANOTHER AND YOU'LL WISH YOU HAD THE RUGER.

Throckmorton pretty much summed it up. Your best bet is going to be the Ruger, my personal choice would be the Vaquero.

I vote Cimarron. They are a clone but according to Cimarron every part on the original 1st Gen 1873 peace maker will interchange. My dad owns A Cimarron and it feels great and has a nice 2 1/2 to 3lb trigger factory. Well balanced to. just thought i'd throw my 2 cents in.

I've always followed my father's advice: he told me, first to always keep my word and, second, to never insult anybody unintentionally. If I insult you, you can be damn sure I intend to. And, third, he told me not to go around looking for trouble.

Ruger single actions are top of the line.I don't think Beretta makes one.

    Love them Pre-64's!!!!-Bob

Ruger is the most reliable and strongest. The Vaquero looks most like the Colt but is scaled up and heavier.
If you have to have the feel of a Colt SAA, you're stuck with the Colt or its' clones and occasional spring breakage.
