I got this from a post someone posted awhile back I have used a few times, mix hydrogen peroxide and white vinegar 50/50 and let it sit about a minute that should take it out. 0 -
I use USP borepaste on a lot of problem cleaning chores. It is still going to be alot of work compared to the previously mentioned chemical method but it enjoys an advantage of NOT being a chemical process and is a little easier on the mind.

J B Bore paste is good, Blue Wonder also good for smaller amount or final cleaning. If heavily leaded the Blue Wonder would take a while.

I've found a lot of detergents and scrubbers really screw up rifling. If you're having that much trouble, the solution is in your kitchen. Using a flame on a gas stove or the tip of the soldering iron, gently heat up your barrel. The lead will ball up and with a few taps of a rubber mallet will fall right out. Lead has a much lower melting temp. than it would take to harm your barrel. Just remember to be careful and DON'T quench the barrel. Let it cool naturally. 0 -
Get some good jacketed bullets and shoot five to ten of them. This will take out alot of the lead out. Then clean the gun and see what you get. Use a strong solvent like Hoppes copper or shooter choice and not some homemade mix that might hurt your gun. 0 -
Thanks a lot guys, D@D I tryed that 50/50 stuff didnt work, Did get what looked like rust out of it. I dont trust it. 0 -
I don't remember who I got it from, but it works for me. 0 -
Saturate the bore with Hoppe's solvent, let it sit for 10 minutes then scrub with a new bronze brush 20-30 passes. Repeat the process as many times as it takes to remove the lead. You may have to use several new brushes as the worn ones become ineffective, but eventually you will get all the lead out.
Personally, I would not try home brew formulas on a gun I cared about...and heating up the barrel to melt the lead would be out of the question.
Happy scrubbing,

I have used Pro Shot Lead remover with good results on my .45 LC Vaquero. 0 -
The best way I have found to get lead out is to use a LEWIS LEAD REMOVER. These tools have been around for years and BROWNELLS co. now owns them. It's basically a cleaning rod with rubber and other parts that uses a fine mesh brass screen that doesn't damage your bore but strips out the lead amazingly well. Check them out at www.brownells.com.[8D] 0 -
