? Ruger KP97 DAO

Went out shooting today and took my newly aquired Ruger 45 ACP. It is a double action only,but the trigger is soooooo hard to pull. Much harder than my other Rugers.I understand how a double action only functions,but this trigger is almost impossible to pull.I had to pull so hard I couldn`t possibly expect to keep it on target. Anybody else have this experience with a Ruger? Should I send it to Ruger to be checked out? I`ve never had a gun with such a stiff trigger pull.
