I used tp shoot at Buffalo alot but as I live in Carpentersville ( near Elgin ) I now shoot in Wisconsin. It is about the same drive for me to go to Eagle Wi. (actually about 20 minutes less! ) and use the fine facilities at the McMiller Sport Center. If you are a shotgunner they have some amazing courses and I believe live bird hunting as well. Half the people I run into there are from Illinois now! Their rifle ranges are really nice. They have a 25/50 pistol/rifle range with about 30 positions and a 50/100 yd rifle range that seats about the same with 10 of those being 50/100 convertable. They are military type ranges where you go down a tunnel to lower and raise the target hangers off weighted/cantilevered frames; really cool! ( Bristol is sbout the same travel time for me but frankly their attitude sucks and they are way too restrictive in a bunch of respects). Also at McMiller they are working on getting their 200 yd. range finished and that should be really cool!!! The cost is 8 bucks for and hour and 12 bucks for the day; not too bad I figure! Think there is a $100 yearly pass as well. Sycamore has a club and range but I think you need to know a member to get in so good luck there. If you are closer, there is a good club I've heard of in Kankakee but I know little of it except it has some nice long ranges and nice folks running it. Keep 'em in the ten ring' and have fun. Post back if there is anything else I can help you with.

The range in Kankakee is the Illinois State Rifle Association range and it is first rate. You have to be a member of ISRA and then apply for range membership. I don't know how limited it is. I've belonged for two years and don't get there nearly as often as I'd like to as it's a pretty fair drive. However, if you're in northeastern IL you're going to be driving some distance to a range in any event. 0 -
Thanks for the feedback. I went to local gun show this morning. A new friend directed me to Indiana. town named laporte and rochester a few ranges in closer proximity. I'll try Mcmiller sports center. Sounds like what i'm looking for.
thanks again.0 -
I just joined the range at Kankakee in January. There was no problem getting the membership, but haven't had a chance to get there yet. They require a certain amount of volunteer time or cash in lieu thereof, if you're less than 60 years old.
So far, I've been shooting my handguns at the Chicago Ridge indoor range and the Glenwood Gun Shop's range.

Hey USA,
To get to McMiller I take route 31 north until it merges onto Rt.12 near the Wi. border. Take that north until Rt 12 ends just after the Rt. 43 intersection. Where 12 ends, turn right onto Rt. 67 and follow the sign straight East to Eagle; there is a turn off after about 5 or 6 miles that continues straight east so make sure you don't go north toward Whitewater but you will see a sign that says you are going to Eagle if you follow it correctly. Just befor you get to Eagle you will see a brown large sign that says "McMiller sports Center" and about a mile further east you will turn left down the marked road. About a mile or so down that road, past a couple of horsey farms, you will see another sign that says McMiller Range,,,turn right, go a mile and that road ends in the Ranges parking lot! I can assure you this will be a good place and as mentioned, really nice people who will help you out a bit if you need it! Enjoy!!
