recoil pad removal on Howa synthetic

How does one go about removing the hard rubber recoil pad that comes from the factory on my Howa 1500?

  Look for 2 tiny holes in the rear of the pad. If you find them, use a screwdriver to remove the screws and pad. If there are not any, it means the pad is glued on and I would suggest getting a gunsmith to remove the pad.
