Help Identify the Colt
I'm looking at a Colt revolver thats forsale in a local pawn shop. I can't find the type in my Blue Book. Only markings on it are Colt DA 38. Open the cylinder & the # 170 is stamped on the frame. On the bottom of the grip the # 283 is stamped. What pistol should I look up in the Blue Book. Thanks, Leo.

"IF" those are the only markings on the revolver, and it isn't apparent that other markings have been inadvertently removed during refinishing? My WAG is that the revolver is a Spanish knock-off that dates to the first quarter of the 20th Century.

Does it have Colt's Manufacturing anywhere, or Colt Hartford CT anywhere on the barrel? Is there a serial number?

Also, looking at it from the backsight position, does it turn counter-clockwise when you cock it? If it does it could be one of Colt's poorest products dating from the 1890s, although possibly collector value if it is in excellent condition. 0 -
I'm guessing a Spanish knockoff too! If there is a barrel legeng with Colts' etc... is it mis-spelled? One of their little tactics to avoid nasty american lawyers with copyright infringement papers in hand!
