Weirdest Colt 1917 Ever Seen???????
This is a VERY unique version of the Colt 1917 revolver in .45 LC in Blue. It has Pachmayer rubber grips, extra wide trigger and hammer, "Micro" adjustable rear sight, ramped front, and the barrel appears to be externally sleeved. There is an original Colt "horse" emblem on the left side of the frame near the grip, and what appears to be a " P " in a triangle at the front edge of the trigger guard on the left side. The serial number is 313036. There are no other marking on the pistol. I have been told that it is a Colt Custom shop piece. When the trigger is pulled, it only rotates the cylinder, you must pull the hammer back and then pull the trigger to fire it. I do not know how to include a picture of it in the forum. Any help? It is a neat piece and I need to find out what I can......HELP????
I do have pictures available for any added help it might be. Thanks in advance.

Q: Why did you shoot him 16 times?
A: I didn't see the need to reload!

I would have my doubts that the Colt Custom Shop turned that thing out. 0 -
I would bet that someone "customized" (ruined) a nice old 1917 revolver.

Sounds like someone made a nice heavy barreled target revolver out of it. I don't get it about the disabled D.A. feature, because he would be handicapped in rapid fire. You could remove the sideplate to see if the D.A. sear and spring were removed or if just the spring is bad. If you're lucky you can restore that feature with just those two parts.
In the '50s and '60s these guns and some SAAs were improved by the addition of S&W and Micro sights. In that period many (valuable today)
antique single shot rifles were stripped for their actions that were restocked and rebarreled to varmint calibers. None of these guns were valuable as they were in their obsolete calibers and the 45 Long wasn't a popular caliber then. Tastes change as did the interest and financial ability to collect obsolete guns.0 -
Thanks for the responses! Thanks to Neal for the in depth help! I have sent the pictures to those of you who requested them and hopefully the pics will be on here soon! I truly believe that this Colt is far from "ruined". It may or may not be from the Colt custom shop, but someone put a lot of quality time and effort into it. Thanks again to those of you who try to help others!

Looks great except from the front. I'll bet it's a great shooter.
In '54 I converted one of these from 455, that wouldn't shoot 45ACP worth a darn, to 30 carbine and really ruined it. But then and there (Korea), it wasn't worth anything as it was.0 -
Thanks Trap.
Jerry....I can't imagine anyone beatin' down your door for this one. Sell it as a shooter and move on.

My uncle brought back two in .455 Eley he got for $14 from England after the war. Both had been converted to shoot .45ACP. The one i had was shot alot and had been out of time. It beat the forcing cone out to one side.I rebarreled it with a 12" bbl I got from Numrich Arms in my Highschool metal shop class, added a factory .45ACP cylinder, and some pachmayer grips. No recoil and not very loud now, but i sure wish it was all original now! 0 -
